The Free Men and Women

Sometimes naked,

Sometimes mad,

Now the scholar,

Now the fool,

Thus they appear on Earth,

The free men.

— Attributed to a Hindu verse from Avadhoota Gita (though I am unable to verify this).

People need to stop telling each other they are over-thinking things

People need to stop telling each other they are over-thinking and over-analyzing things.  Why do you think so many people stay so stupid/ignorant; they don’t ruminate properly about matters of gravitas.

Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.

Sadly, I prefer this particular current variant of this Winston Churchill quote over the original quote, which was in reference to a particular person:

Occasionally he stumbled over the truth but he always picked himself up and hurried on as if nothing had happened.

The bonus in the mangled version of the quote is the idea that we are all blundering into the truth occasionally, because sometimes we all need some motivation to go stumbling around.

Hermann Göring at the Nuremberg Trials

“Of course the people don’t want war.  But after all, it’s the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it’s always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it’s a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship.  Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders.  That is easy.  All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger.”

Edit:  Essentially accurate.  Some ellipses should have been included.
